Worm gears are correct angle drives that provide massive gear ratios with reasonably quick centre-to-center distances from 1/4″ to 11″. When properly put in and lubricated, they serve as the quietest, smoothest-operating gear sort. Since worm gear drives can obtain higher equipment ratios, optimum reduction can be accomplished in a smaller area than several other varieties of gear drives. The worm and worm equipment operate at a 90° angle on non-intersecting axes.
